FABP2, also known as intestinal fatty acid binding protein 2 (I-FABP), is expressed in the epithelium of the small intestine by mature enterocytes. FABP2 is thought to facilitate of cellular uptake and transport of longchain fatty acids within enterocytes and may also help maintain energy homeostasis by functioning as a lipid sensor.
